Brown foliage may persist after freezing, but healthy rhizomes can produce new shoots once soil temperatures consistently reach about 65°F (18°C), with recovery taking several weeks.

You should avoid excessive nitrogen applications and heavy routine feeding, basing any fertilizer application strictly on active growth stages or soil-test results instead.
